Con la presente, si porta alla Vostra attenzione il caso di Morhaf Alhossain, un padre separato dalla sua famiglia in un momento di immenso dolore. Sua figlia Rahf, di soli sette anni, è morta dopo un attacco cardiaco a bordo della nave di soccorso Ocean Viking di SOS MEDITERANEE che l’aveva salvata insieme ai suoi familiari. La piccola, descritta come “piena di vita”, era stata trasportata d’urgenza all’ospedale Mater Dei di Malta, dove purtroppo non ce l’ha fatta. Oltre alla devastazione per questa tragica perdita, Morhaf deve affrontare una seconda sofferenza: la separazione forzata dalla moglie Login e dalla loro figlia più piccola, Noor.
Il caso ci è stato segnalato dalle autorità religiose druse in Siria nella nostra recente missione.
La famiglia era partita dalla Libia nella speranza di trovare cure mediche per la piccola Rahf, affetta da una grave patologia cardiaca. Dopo essere stati salvati dalla nave Ocean Viking, la bambina ha avuto un malore improvviso ed è stata trasportata d’urgenza in elicottero a Malta insieme alla madre e alla sorella minore. Il padre, invece, non ha potuto seguirle ed è stato trasferito in un campo per rifugiati in Germania, separato dalla sua famiglia nel momento più difficile della loro vita.
Noor, nata sorda, necessita del supporto di entrambi i genitori, ma la separazione forzata sta aggravando la sua condizione emotiva. La madre, rimasta sola a Malta, fatica a gestire la situazione mentre affronta il lutto per la perdita della figlia maggiore. La burocrazia rischia di allungare i tempi per il ricongiungimento familiare, mettendo ulteriormente a rischio il benessere della bambina e della madre.
Una richiesta di umanità: riunire subito la famiglia
Le separazioni familiari durante operazioni di soccorso sono purtroppo comuni, ma in casi di emergenza come questo, la priorità deve essere la riunificazione immediata. La legge promuove sempre l’unità familiare, ma senza un intervento rapido, il processo può durare mesi, aggravando ulteriormente la sofferenza delle persone coinvolte.
Si chiede con urgenza alle autorità competenti di attivare tutte le procedure necessarie affinché Login e Noor possano essere trasferite in Germania per riunirsi con Morhaf nel più breve tempo possibile. Il dolore di una famiglia distrutta dalla guerra e dalla tragedia non può essere ulteriormente aggravato da ostacoli burocratici.
Questa storia deve essere ascoltata e affrontata con l’attenzione e la sensibilità che merita. Noor ha già perso una sorella, non deve perdere anche suo padre.

Open letter to the authorities for the alhossain family reunification
To the Competent Authorities,
With this letter, we bring to your attention the case of Morhaf Alhossain, a father separated from his family in a moment of immense grief. His seven-year-old daughter, Rahf, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest on board the rescue ship Ocean Viking – SOS MEDITERANEE, that had saved her and her family. The little girl, described as “full of life,” was urgently transported to Mater Dei Hospital in Malta, where she tragically did not survive. In addition to the devastation of this tragic loss, Morhaf must now face a second hardship: the forced separation from his wife, Login, and their youngest daughter, Noor.
The case was reported to us by the Druze religious authorities in Syria during our recent mission.
The family had left Libya in the hope of finding medical treatment for little Rahf, who suffered from a severe heart condition. After being rescued by the Ocean Viking ship, Rahf suddenly fell ill and was urgently airlifted to Malta along with her mother and younger sister. However, the father was not allowed to accompany them and was instead transferred to a refugee camp in Germany, separated from his family at the most difficult moment of their lives.
Noor, who was born deaf, needs the support of both parents, but the forced separation is severely impacting her emotional well-being. The mother, left alone in Malta, is struggling to cope with the situation while mourning the loss of her eldest daughter. Bureaucratic delays risk prolonging the family reunification process, further endangering the well-being of both the child and her mother.
A Call for Humanity: Reunite the Family Immediately
Family separations during rescue operations are unfortunately common, but in emergency cases like this, immediate reunification must be the priority. The law always promotes family unity, but without swift intervention, the process could take months, exacerbating the suffering of those involved.
We urgently call on the relevant authorities to activate all necessary procedures to transfer Login and Noor to Germany as soon as possible so they can reunite with Morhaf. The pain of a family torn apart by war and tragedy must not be further compounded by bureaucratic obstacles.
This story must be heard and addressed with the attention and sensitivity it deserves. Noor has already lost a sister; she must not lose her father as well.
